Mr. Sherwood, I agree that the demand for funding for retrofitting diesel vehicles has exceeded the funding made available to date. However, it is important to note that in fiscal year 2006, funding for programs under the National Clean Diesel Initiative was less than $12 million, and the $26 million recommended by the committee for fiscal 2007 represents an increase in funding of nearly 120 percent. I have been personally involved in programs to promote the use of diesel retrofits back in my district, and I believe the generous amount provided by the committee will make significant strides in addressing the clean diesel program's objectives. Having said that, I would be happy to work with my colleagues to see if we might be able to increase the funding for this program should additional funds be made available when we go to conference with the Senate. Mr. Chairman, I yield 3\1/2\ minutes to the gentleman from Pennsylvania (Mr. Peterson).
