We are really at a crossroads in this country, facing a budget such as we have received from the President to deal with. I want to echo what my esteemed colleagues are talking about with respect to the budget... History suggests that an abandonment of fiscal discipline will eventually push up interest rates, crowd out capital spending, lower productivity growth, and force harder choices upon us in the future. The administration has no plans to address this budget deficit and, in fact, in this latest budget is proposing to make it much worse. The reckless tax cut that we cannot afford that will not help to restart the economy and, for the most part, goes to precisely the people who do not need it, is what they are proposing.
