I have been consistent in my endeavors to arouse the nation to our responsibilities in meeting the problems of the returned veteran.

I feel confident that I may count upon the American Legion to continue aggressively to maintain public interest in the welfare of the veteran.

I am wholeheartedly in sympathy with your observations concerning the grave responsibilities confronting the peacemakers and your comments relative to the period following Versailles.

I agree that the views and feelings of our veterans of World War II should be reflected in the position taken by our Government.

This process is democracy.

I trust this letter makes clear that while it is impractical to adopt your suggestion, its spirit will motivate and guide our Secretary of State at Paris.

I haven't been requested to act.

All prior Executive orders in conflict herewith are amended accordingly.

I urge upon you and your committee the earliest practicable action on S. 1592, the General Housing Act of 1946.

Time is truly of the essence.
