this afternoon I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to visit with high school students from Becker, Minnesota who are participating in the Close-Up program. As a result of our visit, I was unable to record my vote during the consideration of the misguided tax legislation that will undermine Social Security. Had I been present, I would have voted ``no'' on rollcall 103, for I strongly opposed last year's irresponsible tax bill, and I certainly do not support making these tax law changes permanent. If enacted, this fiscally reckless plan would spend $400 billion on tax cuts for the wealthy, every penny of which comes directly out of Social Security.
