I happen to have intense allergies to animals, particularly dogs, cats and horses. I cannot be in a home that has a dog or a cat, even if they are absent from the premises, for more than a half hour at most. When I first read that pets were being introduced into nursing homes and rest homes, I had an involuntary shudder. I thought if that happens and it appears in all nursing homes and rest homes, I will never be able to go to one. When we talk about public housing, we should be aware that there are lot of people who have allergies. Now, I have never talked about my handicap before. It was enough of a handicap that I never went to school until I was college age. I had to be in my home, because I invariably got sick when I went to school, so I was home schooled, not by choice, but out of necessity.
