I have a bill that reduces debt to be reported on your credit report from 7 years down to 4 years.

I am so glad we are holding a hearing of this kind today, because too many of my colleagues don't fully understand how broken our so-called justice system is.

These proposed bills create intentional confusion regarding IDs and requirements designed to trick individuals and really intimidate individuals from voting.

They are an attack on our American democracy. They failed. They failed, and now they want to cheat, and that is the exact truth.

I had to call Chairwoman Waters a number of times to tell her, this bank is doing this, this bank is doing that.

It is about accessibility, period. It is like they don't want all of us to have access.

Thank you for always wanting to continue to speak these truths about these broken structures within our country and our communities, especially communities of color.

I am so incredibly grateful for my colleague from New York, Representative Ocasio-Cortez, for leading the charge and reintroducing the Public Banking Act this Congress.

I am done subsidizing pollution. I am done subsidizing these billionaires. Our residents deserve better.

This is a capital gains tax break for the rich.

These are bougie buildings, and they are getting these big tax breaks that are not accessible to my residents.

Opportunity zones are providing the biggest benefits to projects with the highest returns, which are rarely aligned with equitable development.

The key question here about opportunity zones is that who does it? Who is the opportunity for exactly?

We need to focus on that because, when you focus on those numbers and not the facts, then you are not focusing on how many people are getting cancer.

I keep telling my colleagues jobs cannot fix cancer.

Is there anything that HUD can do to end this? Can HUD consider withholding CDBG funds to localities that over-assess property tax at such a high rate, in violation of the Fair Housing Act?

I applaud you for including tax foreclosure relief in the implementation of the Homeowner Assistance Fund.

I just want to thank you so much for including the Restoring Communities Left Behind Act that Congresswoman Kaptur and I are championing in addressing tax foreclosure but also home improvement in neighborhoods, true grassroots neighborhood…

The climate crisis is here. We need to do everything we can in our power and our purview to really, truly reduce our carbon footprint

We all know that cryptocurrency like Bitcoin currently consumes enough energy to power a small nation.

Children can't learn if they are hungry. Well, I also believe that children can't learn if they can't breathe.

I have seen it firsthand growing up in southwest Detroit.

That is a form of structural racism. If you look at who is impacted, it is low-income communities.

So, when we talk about structural racism and we talk about this hearing, we have to really talk about the human impacts of what this means.

Thank you so much, Mr. Chairman. I so appreciate this hearing because credit scoring has been something that impacts my community directly, as the third-poorest congressional district in the country.
