The tremendous potential of plant genomics is limited only by the creativity of the scientists and this body and Washington allowing them to do the research. This bill will help create the next generation of plants that will provide consumer benefits, for example, plants that can be engineered to produce compounds, such as enzymes used for food processing; food that provides vaccines and antibodies; compounds used to produce biodegradable plastics; renewable energy production. I think together we have crafted a good bill that will make good programs even better.
