Right now interest is 14 percent of the budget. Defense is 20 percent of the budget. It is easy to at least assume there is a good possibility that the very low interest rates today could double. That would mean $440 billion a year, or 28 percent of the budget. It would mean our borrowing and servicing that debt is more important than what government should be paying attention to, and that is security and defense.
