We all know that these issues exist. We all know of the imminent threats to our Constitution, our imminent threats to our institutions.

I think is to address an imminent threat to our democracy.

It is imperative that this Subcommittee explores ways to improve the IRS's technology and capabilities.

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone in the room that the IRS is in dire need of reform.

The issues that have really vexed my constituents, as Mr. Meehan said, one of the biggest issues is how complicated this IRS Code is and the 70,000 pages of convoluted rules and regulations that have made life miserable for folks.

I support the questions that she asked and the tone in which she asked them, because that is the tone in which my constituents are concerned about this.

Well, it begs a question then: Why are they treated differently?

It is hypocrisy that the IRS expects citizens to live up to a certain standard but doesn't hold themself to that very standard.

We should not be placing that burden on our small businesses. It really is absurd.

Small businesses and their workers should not be punished with the complex tax reporting standards...

This proposed rule has put into place something that is inconceivable to me, that we would change public policy that would actually have that kind of impact on students who already see skyrocketing costs of tuition.

As Chairman Walberg said, the rules and regulations guiding the implementation of the Fair Labor Standards Act are too complex, burdensome, and outdated.

It is also personal for the low-wage worker trying to seize opportunities to move up the economic ladder.

To me, the world out there reacts to laws and the changes in laws. It does not react well when you have a bunch of unaccountable, unelected boards and departments and agencies promulgating rules that have dramatic impact, they may even…

So is this a direct reflection of how we are interpreting the law and how we have failed to accommodate this generation into our workforce?

He explained how the rule will be detrimental to workplace flexibility, how it will negatively impact pay and bonuses, and how it will 'severely limit hardworking, talented Americans from realizing their dreams.'

It is personal for the workers who need the flexibility to care for their loved one.

It causes me great anxiety to sit here and not hear someone, a public official, say we will not stand for lawlessness.

Selective enforcement of the law is not justice. It is in fact lawlessness.

The idea of sanctuary cities is really antithetical to what prosecutors believe and that is justice, because it is the selective application of laws.

Ultimately, we have to face the people that brought us--that sent us here. Agencies don't have that same accountability.

The videos were so abhorrent and so unconscionable that it is our responsibility to step up and to have these hearings.

It is our responsibility as Members, Republicans and Democrats, to address issues like this in this format.
