We are finally at the cusp of implementing reforms that are going to see to it that quality health care is a right and not a privilege.

This would be a dreadful, shortsighted policy which would hurt the country very badly.

Consumers across the country will reap the benefits of increased competition through lower rates.

These are very important things that my colleagues want to take away from them.

Would you submit for the record your further comments on both of those two matters----

With all respect, Mr. Secretary, you have taken both sides of this issue.

Mr. Secretary, in the 2011 article I mentioned earlier, you note that you were a strong supporter of nuclear energy developing new nuclear technologies and investing in other energy technologies.

Now, Mr. Secretary, the BRC report recommends, "access to the funds nuclear utility ratepayers are providing for the purpose of nuclear waste management," and you propose nonlegislative as well as legislative changes to achieve this goal.

Now, Mr. Secretary, do you have any plans to reinitiate DOE's license application to the NRC for review and final decision on Yucca Mountain? Yes or no?

The Blue Ribbon Commission of which you were a member was not allowed to examine Yucca Mountain as a part of its study.

I commend you for having this hearing.

I am delighted to see the subcommittee is exercising its long neglected jurisdiction over matters related to international trade.

some form of regulatory harmonization or mutual recognition of standards with the European Union would allow U.S. automakers and others to be more globally competitive.

The entire incentive auction must be subject to rigorous and ongoing oversight in order to assure the transparency and that it achieves to Congress' intent as set forth in the Act.

I would urge that the Commission in its final order not to reassign or reallocate the broadcast frequencies until it has concluded negotiations with Mexico and Canada.

The Commission should implement simple rules in a transparent manner that allows the greatest number of parties to bid on reclaimed broadcaster frequencies.

With respect to the reverse auction, broadcasters should be treated fairly, and I will do my level best to ensure that the Commission takes no action that would deprive constituents in border areas of free over-the-air television.

I am strongly interested in seeing that the incentive auctions authorized by the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 proceeds in a fair and transparent manner.

Over 120,000 people who don't have health insurance now will have access to quality, affordable coverage.

Ninety-five percent of large employers are already offering coverage to their employees, and that will continue to happen.

I am confident we can come together in a bipartisan manner to clarify and strengthen the authority of FDA over compounding pharmacies.

One main reason for the NECC outbreak was much confusion regarding FDA's authorities and the proper role of the States.

I commend you for holding this hearing.

The American people deserve a response to the NECC outbreak so that we can ensure that this never happens again.

I am committed, like most of my colleagues here, to seeing to it that we work towards a proper bipartisan solution to the problem.
