I believe this working group is one of the best examples of how we can come together at a time when the Nation needs our leadership to reduce the levels of violence in our communities.

Earlier this summer, my congressional colleagues and I staged an unprecedented sit-in just to try to get a vote on commonsense gun legislation.

This has been a fascinating subject here that I didn't realize was so emotional to so many people both on the panel and in the audience.

Unfortunately, though, since 1976, Congress has sought to undermine this important constitutional right by attaching the so-called Hyde amendment to annual appropriation measures.

In Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court recognized a woman's constitutional right to make what is perhaps the most personal of healthcare decisions--when to start a family--free from undue government interference.

I spoke earlier about the precedent of the House, which has always provided some basic due process to an accused official.

In 2015, the inspector general released a report that concluded no evidence was uncovered that any IRS employees had been directed to destroy or hide information from the Congress.

Of course you didn't. According to PolitiFact, there is no, zero evidence to support this claim.

The head of the IRS ordered 24,000 emails erased before Congress could review them.

The commissioner's critics simply have not proved their case.

The effort to impeach Commissioner Koskinen is destined to fail on both the merits and as a matter of process.

Successful impeachments are bipartisan efforts, and partisan attacks cloaked in the impeachment process are doomed from the start.

I feel that it does raise State sovereignty concerns in a very significant way.

There's so many matters that we have to come forth and could come forth in this Subcommittee, but we're not dealing with them.

We should be focused on restoring voting rights.

I'm deeply disappointed we are wasting our time on our limited time that we have in this Congress, in this Committee on this hearing.

We ought to be dealing with voting rights and due process and death, and that is what we ought to be instead of trying to pick a partisan fight with the Administration.
