H.R. 526, the 'Further Asbestos Claim Transparency Act,' commonly referred to as the 'FACT Act,' gives asbestos defendants new weapons with which to harm asbestos victims.

E-Verify is an important tool. But I have also said, and the witnesses appearing before us have agreed, that E-Verify cannot be made mandatory for all employers without comprehensive reforms to our Nation's broken immigration system.

I hope we can get serious about legislating real solutions for our businesses, families, and national security.

I do nonetheless remain hopeful that, in the 114th Congress, Members from both sides of the aisle will come together to finally pass comprehensive legislative reform.

None of these bills would have helped fix our broken immigration system, and none of them ever represented a serious effort to legislate.

It has been 531 days since the Senate passed bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would have made meaningful and long-overdue reforms.
