The appointment of a Command Pilot, Pilot or Mission Specialist candidate to a position in the Space Shuttle Astronaut Program may be converted to career or career-conditional appointment if certain conditions are met.
I take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the voluntary agencies, the public and private institutions and the many individual families that have contributed so generously to this program.
