There has been a steady increase in our area of new businesses. Even where I live, 40 miles north of Alpena in the expanded area, empty storefront buildings are being occupied with new businesses, and we are seeing growth again.

Sanctuaries are very dear and near to my heart as well as to Michigan's economy.

This is something we have to grapple with in a broad-based way.

Cyber is the most significant national security risk that we face.

Perhaps the most transformative new technology that is coming down the pike...

I know it has been an important program for the detection and deterrence of individuals, but I also know that there are folks who believe that this can lead to racial profiling as a whole.

I'd like to hear from you, if confirmed, would you ensure that the TSA does its part to help airports with security infrastructure projects?

So we're going to try to work through this and find out how we can coordinate better to make the kind of necessary security improvements that we need to make.

So I think there is certainly a tremendous need for additional security improvements from an infrastructure standpoint throughout airports.

Well, as a follow-up, as we push to expand Medicare to cover these new innovative services, how can we collect better data and conduct enforcement to ensure that these programs are truly the best that we can offer?

I would certainly look forward to having an opportunity to discuss that further with you, if you had an opportunity to review that bill and give us any input as to how we can make it better.

I actually like to think of universal broadband access as something very similar to access to electricity.

I recently partnered with this Committee's Ranking Member, Senator McCaskill, to introduce the Federal Agency Customer Service Experience Act of 2017.

Ultimately, it is every public servant's most important job to hear the American public and serve their needs.

It is past time we critically examine how government should be organized to best serve the American people.

It's obviously very important to be doing all of that, and it's important for us to move the development forward, but also to understand that we're in a global economy.

Because of the expertise of the American Center for Mobility, we'll definitely save thousands and thousands of lives every year and fundamentally change the way we get from place to place in the future.

I believe that it is critical that we ensure American leadership as the center for automotive innovation in the world.

They have the potential to save tens of thousands of the more than 35,000 lives lost each year on the road.

This technology is without question one of the most transformative technologies to come out of the auto industry probably since the first car came off of the assembly line.

I look forward to continuing to work with this committee and Chairman Thune to develop legislation that will help transform mobility and create jobs in Michigan and around the country.
