Thank you, Mr. Chairman, for calling this important hearing to examine the ways that we can unlock the value of broadband to bring telehealth and other patient monitoring technologies into the home.

As part of last year's Recovery Act, Congress made a major investment of some $19 billion to increase the meaningful use of electronic health records.

The development of the broadband network and health information technologies has the potential to truly transform healthcare, simultaneously enabling better outcomes and lowering costs.
