I have a lot of confidence in the way Bob Mueller is conducting his investigation.

We need to support that investigation.

Israel is one of our closest and most important allies.

There's a lot of questions here that I want us to get to the bottom of today, and I thank you for calling this hearing.

I would like somebody to explain that to me, why did the Treasury Department exclude Maryland.

I would urge the administration to reconsider these cuts because I think they are counterproductive to some of the stated goals that you have here today.

But then you come with what is what I would say is a scandalously irresponsible budget proposal in terms of this cut of $143 billion in terms of the salaries, pensions, other kinds of benefits.

Even though Federal law requires the President to propose a budget, the U.S. Constitution vests the actual budget and spending authority with the Congress, particularly the House of Representatives.

This one was detailing your wasteful spending and favors for your friends.

To date, five independent Federal investigations have been initiated at this committee's request.

I have had the privilege of chairing here in the Congress the Democracy Reform Task Force.

EPA under your tenure has been cloaked in secrecy and swamped with ongoing legal and ethical failures.

I have been watching you during the hearing and you certainly have the bearing of a man who thinks he is untouchable.

Lying to Congress is a crime, regardless of whether or not you are sworn in.
