But why did Donald Trump pardon all of the insurrectionists? That's what we want to know. Are they reformed? Are they no longer a threat to public safety?

If President Trump had come forward and said, we've spoken to these people. They are not going to be attacking police officers in the future the way that they bloodied and wounded and hospitalized, 140 of them in Washington, D.C.

Pardons have generally been used when people are actually innocent or there was some procedural miscarriage of justice.

In a democracy, Americans have the right to information about our public officials and what they're doing.

Those two cases are tangential and peripheral to the central matter of a president who pilfered classified government documents for some purpose still unknown to the public.

Every federal judge and justice knows he or she must avoid situations such as this. Yet Justice Alito did not.

And if it is actually going to happen, people should demand a very specific accounting of how there is contrition and repentance on part of each of the people being pardoned.

The Democrats are totally unified, totally focused. And we believe that we are defending not just the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, but also our opportunity to make progress for the American people.

They cannot afford to lose one vote, whether that's to political defection or illness or even a complete divorce from the caucus.
