I want to bring my colleagues up to date on where we are. Right now the vice chairman of the committee, Senator Shelby, and I are in conversation on some possible agreements we could make on the outstanding amendments so we can get them down to a manageable list. We are waiting for his arrival. He was at the airport, and we have been in communication. Our conversations have been constructive. When Senator Shelby arrives, we look forward to perhaps presenting something to the Senate that will give us a clear path on specific amendments. While we are waiting for that, I ask unanimous consent to speak as in morning business about some very sad events that occurred in Maryland. The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.
