It is a vulnerable population, and I am worried that if we go forward with what you are proposing, a lot of people are going to be hurt.

I am just trying to understand the benefit of throwing these people off of a food benefit, how that helps them get a job?

I was disappointed that the budget cuts agriculture research by over $179 million.

I find that unacceptable in 2019.

I was extremely disappointed to see that rural broadband funding was cut by $350 million.

The proposed elimination of programs such as Food for Peace, McGovern-Dole, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, Summer EBT, rural watershed protection programs, and nearly all of the rural housing loan and grant programs is wholly…

Nobody in this country should ever have to go hungry, and I think this program goes a long way in dealing with that.

I think the best of America is in our--is represented in our food and nutrition programs.

I urge this subcommittee to provide at least $54 million for tree and wood pests under USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

It is simply unfathomable to think otherwise.

I urge this committee to continue to provide robust funding for nutrition programs administration.

Charities alone cannot solve hunger. It takes a strong federal commitment as well.

I believe that hunger is a political condition. I think we have the power and the resources to end hunger in the United States.

Our job is to tell Congress the truth and the facts as best we can discern them.

It is like Reagan said, trust but verify, and we would be happy to help you with ensuring that happens.

We strongly support the Law Library's digitization strategy, which will provide access to public domain U.S. legal and legislative materials.

We provide Members who are traveling with, you know, information on human rights defenders, on the human rights situation in countries.

We need to keep them. We can't just run this on a volunteer basis. Quite frankly, this is a full-time job.

We are looking for some certainty so we can hire professional staff and we can keep them and we can continue our work.

We have a modest request for $230,000. We appreciate the subcommittee's report language and your recognition of the incredible work that the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission does.
