the Coast Guard provides a number of vital services to protect and defend our Nation's coastal areas and waterways. H.R. 1699 authorizes funding to conduct search and rescue efforts, vessel safety compliance, as well as wildlife promotion and protection. I am particularly supportive of the funding increases provided through H.R. 1699 that will increase the Coast Guard's drug interdiction operations.
