On the recordJuly 28, 1997
Mr. Chairman, the INS is checking every voter in that election, not one particular group. They are checking every voter to see if they were naturalized and what the date of naturalization was, whether you are of German descent or Irish descent or whatever. They are checking everyone. They are not singling out any particular group. That is my understanding. I say that because my subcommittee funds the INS. We have checked into this, I say to the gentleman from Maryland [Mr. Hoyer]. If it were otherwise, I would join the gentleman in his outrage. That is just not the case. They are checking every single voter in that election, and the naturalization date, and if you are a natural born citizen, of course, you would not show up.
