Mr. Chairman, I yield 3 minutes to the distinguished gentleman from Ohio (Mr. Latta), who is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, a cosponsor of this legislation, and a gentleman focused on energy issues.
As I see it, the RFS was enacted largely for three reasons--to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil, to lower greenhouse gas emissions, and to strengthen rural economies.
It is critically important that the Federal Government maintains its leadership role of promoting, encouraging, and enticing interested stakeholders.
Mr. Chairman, we have no further speakers on our side of the aisle except for myself, and I think I have the right to close. I don't know if the gentleman from Illinois has additional speakers or if he would like to go at this time.
