“I thank my fellow freshmen and those of us here that are here to talk about the budget. I appreciate having the opportunity to discuss this issue. It is one of the most important issues. It was discussed in my district at every public meeting and every discussion regarding the direction that the Federal Government is going. In my remarks tonight I would like to focus on the bipartisanship, the fact that we understand how the American people feel; that they want us to recognize that good ideas come from both sides of the aisle and they come from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. And so even though this budget agreement does not look like any one of us would have written had we had total control over it, we have had to learn the lessons that we have learned in every aspect of our lives and that is to listen, to build a consensus, to grow and to learn from others. This has very much been a part of my life, Mr. Speaker. I have said a lot of times that I learned a lot of life's lessons growing up in a family of 11 kids. None of us got our way all the time. None of us got to watch the channel on television that we wanted. None of us got control of the family, but we learned to listen, we learned to understand the varied perspectives, we learned to deal with those ideas and we put them all together, and together we found a better way.”
