“few would disagree that small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. From the mom-and-pop general store, to the diner on Main Street, small businesses play an integral role in keeping our economy moving. In fact, these enterprises create half of all of the new jobs created in this country. The greatest obstacle facing small business today is the Federal Government itself. Ronald Reagan had it clear in his mind when he said what the test of an economic program should be: ``Government has an important role in helping develop a country's economic foundation. But the critical test is whether the Government is genuinely working to liberate individuals by creating incentives to work, save, invest and succeed.'' Sweeping tax reform is the only way to truly unleash America's potential and free small business from the burden of Government while encouraging savings, investment and real prosperity. However, until we have someone in the White House who puts the interests of small businesses and the American people before politics, this type of complete tax reform seems impossible. In the meantime, passing the Small Business Job Protection Act provides immediate and meaningful relief for small businesses in Kansas and the rest of the Nation.”
