Thank you, Chairwoman Velazquez and Ranking Member Chabot, for holding this hearing today.

Thank you, Chairman Golden. And I know Ranking Member Stauber had to head out, but I definitely appreciate the two of you holding this hearing on what is an incredible important topic.

I appreciate the recognition of our small businesses, and sole proprietors, and particularly the small business owners who are from marginalized communities needing that certainty around the rules.

Unfortunately, there have been many challenges for small businesses who tried to access the Paycheck Protection Program and the EIDL programs.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and no place is that truer than the Kansas Third Congressional District I am so proud to represent.

Congress must pass H.R. 6506, the Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act, which I am a cosponsor of, and would provide $900 billion in additional PPP funding.

These precautions are incredibly important for public health and safety and have to remain our priority.

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 was found in the Kansas 3rd Congressional District which I represent, this past weekend.

We cannot overlook the impact of this epidemic on our economy, and especially the small businesses.

I was a bit disappointed to see that in the President's proposed budget there were cuts to entrepreneurial development programs.

Thank you for making sure that this hearing happened so quickly after we requested addressing these important topics.
