I think this is an enormous opportunity for us to link a need for beginning farmers with--as Representative Fortenberry suggested, a lot of these kids who were serving in the military came from those small towns; 40 percent of the military is from rural America.

I urge the committee to resist these efforts to undermine the bill for several reasons.
I think we are all aware that yields are doing well in a lot of parts of the country, but the prices are down, and they may be down for a while, and farm incomes down over 50 percent, I think, on average across the country.
