On rollcall No. 597, I inadvertantly voted ``no'' on Mr. McKinley's amendment. Had I voted correctly, I would have voted ``aye.''

by number of sources- We have a unique opportunity today to begin the long process of addressing the hidden tax of burdensome regulations. These are the regulations that choke small businesses, hinder U.S. manufacturers, and obstruct job creation. Last year alone, the Federal Government created 43 major new rules that cost our economy approximately $28 billion, and my friends on the other side of the aisle wonder why jobs are going overseas. By directing committees to review and purge outdated and unproductive regulations from the books, this resolution provides much-needed oversight to a regulatory system that is spiraling out of control. As the co-chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus, I hear almost every day from manufacturers and other small businesses that are being crushed by unnecessary regulations which constrict job growth and yet don't make us any safer, any healthier, or any more secure. Our country needs a sensible and economically competitive regulatory policy.2 sources2011govinfo.gov
- I also note that the bill would require the Office of Management and Budget place the information on small business paperwork burdens on the Internet. I agree that this would make the information more accessible. However, I believe more can be done. I think that OMB should establish a link on its website to the agency point of contact established by the bill. Each agency's website then would have links to the relevant paperwork required for small business.2 sources2001govinfo.gov
- 10 years ago a patriot from Freeport, Illinois, named Dan Steele went off to war in Iraq to fight for the American people and protect the freedoms this country has known for more than 200 years. During the buildup in the Gulf, Dan's leg was fractured by an Iraqi soldier's apparent suicide attack. Over the next 8 years, Dan suffered from various conditions shared by many in the Gulf War. In May of 1999, Dan succumbed to his illnesses and passed away. The county coroner listed 'Gulf War Syndrome' as a secondary cause on his death certificate. Shortly after Dan's funeral, I dispatched Al Pennimen, a retired judge on my staff, to contact his widow, Donna. She vowed to Dan to do whatever she could to help other Gulf War veterans suffering from mysterious ailments. Her story moved me to introduce legislation, H.R. 612, that now has the support of over 225 Members of Congress. A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson. I am pleased to announce that significant portions of H.R. 612 are included in this benefits package today.2 sources2001govinfo.gov

This legislation will honor President Reagan's leadership and foresight in protecting U.S. interests.
we must also recognize the abundant opportunity that Ronald Reagan provided our nation when he first established our EEZ.
I respectfully urge you to act so that the bill can be enacted into law very soon as it needs to be in the interests of our great nation.

I am also hearing from a lot of small business people who have around 50 people that they are going to fire people to get below 50 so they are not covered by the President's health care.
The problem I still have with Dodd-Frank is at the time of the collapse, there were Federal regulations and laws in effect that if had been properly implemented, could have avoided the entire crash.
But we can talk all we want about the Volcker Rule, about this and about that and we need to get back to, at least in my opinion the reason for the collapse of the economy was in the residential home market.
Success cannot be built on wishful thinking about a regime that has shown a desire only to extract concessions from us and from South Korea.
We have been talking to, off and on, the tyrants in Tehran, and it isn't working, and it is not going to work.
We value that friendship. We are committed and will remain committed, I hope, as an ally and a supporter of Korea.
Human rights needs to be a centerpiece of this alliance and we have yet to fully explore how we can push a human rights agenda formed together with our South Korean ally.
This amendment has been a long time in coming. Congress overreacted back in 1998 to move export licensing decisions for commercial communication satellites (COMSATs) to the highly restrictive munitions list. As a result, worldwide market…
