Can we move from the language of kindness to the language of justice? Can we move from philanthropic sensibility to political commitment?

Thank you for your service to our country. And as we continue to do our work here, let us continue to fight for those who fought for us.

Food insecurity is a critical issue in eastern North Carolina, rural America, and across the country.

My support for legislation that helps Americans, and those in particular: children, families, seniors, and, yes indeed, our veterans.

My goal is preservation for those truly in need, and recognize that sometimes our neighbors in need require a helping hand.

I am firm in my belief that smart policies do not equal indiscriminate expansion of these programs.

I think, to me, that is kind of like a gamble.

I want to make sure that we protect Social Security as much as we can.

I think we need to be very careful about that, as well.

I am very interested in fraud and in Social Security. But I am really more interested in Social Security than I am in fraud.

Eastern North Carolina producers desperately need farm labor, in terms of the workforce.

I am proud to support bipartisan common sense priorities for stakeholders here today.

I believe that you can define the greatness of a society by how well it treats its old, how well it treats its young, how well you treat those who are infirmed, suffer with disabilities, are described as being disadvantaged.

If you give tax cuts to the wealthy, if you disavow needs movement, does that move us towards where we need to be going?

Brinkmanship is no way to run a government. The default on America act is one of the worst bills I have had the opportunity to vote on. It is antichildren, antiseniors, antiveterans, antimiddle America, antismall business, antihealthcare…

I would say don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Adding better guardrails about the line between securities and commodities will greatly enhance the ability of us to give advice and for businesses to know what to do.

I mean, I remember one person telling me, it doesn't matter the asset class, fraud and schemes to get people separated from their money are always the same right?

I can't say enough to our leadership, to our Ranking Member and above to our Chairman for having us here today.

The SEC's test does not produce or does not lead to reproducible results.

There is a significant gap in Federal spot market regulation because the large majority of digital assets spot market activity falls outside the regulatory jurisdiction of both the CFTC and the SEC.

The seemingly race-neutral tax policies and audit practices can have a substantial disproportionate impact on taxpayers of color.

Most people in my district in eastern North Carolina very likely have never heard, I would imagine, of this, CFTC or the SEC.

I think it is an important concept, and I think it is one that we are perfectly capable of looking into.

I want to also follow up on another topic, too. I spoke briefly about, and I have continued to share with all the witnesses that's coming forward to advocate for northeast North Carolina.

Ensuring a ready fighting force in the air is paramount.
