Today's child support program directs the vast majority of collections to meet the immediate needs of children.

For children living in poverty, child support nearly doubles their household income.

So the more comprehensive our approaches are, the more likely we are to see positive results.

The more effective approaches to dealing with trauma and how it impacts, would that be a beneficial activity for us to put more emphasis on to help reduce poverty?

For years, structural racism has led to much higher rates of child poverty among children of color, especially Black children.

Every day we delay action, poverty poisons the future for millions of our children and for our nation.

It is shameful, quite frankly, that this Congress is not taking strong, immediate action to end poverty, using policies proven to work.

This inability to govern has prevented us from doing our work for three weeks, despite an urgent need to keep our government operating, address the child care cliff, and stand by our allies.

I believe that child poverty is a moral emergency. It is inexcusable that children in the wealthiest nation in the world are growing up in poverty.

Democrats stand ready. I stand ready to set an aggressive child poverty reduction target and hold ourselves accountable to restore income supports to strengthen families and cut child poverty.

We are all in favor of waiving all non-fraudulent overpayments that came from the pandemic programs

Not a single Republican voted for these anti-fraud funds

We were outraged, quite frankly, that criminal rings stole unemployment insurance benefits during the pandemic

Although children from all races and ethnicities suffer from abuse and neglect at similar rates, Black children are overrepresented at each decision point in the child welfare system.

I hope we can work together to persuade your colleagues to prevent a shutdown and continue the foster care-related programs under Title IV-B.

I am proud to be a part of the long tradition in the Ways and Means Committee of enacting important bipartisan legislation to improve foster care and better prevent child abuse and neglect.

We must be focused on winning the fight, but as the Chair also indicated, leaders, if they are focused on winning the fight, understand you have to take care of your people.

Americans today really care about their jobs and being able to provide for their families.

Our mission, our goal every single day should be defending those things that make America great.

This whole notion that somehow or another we need to be in bed with the same tax rate as the rest of the world is absolute lunacy.

Last week, I proudly shepherded a bipartisan NDAA amendment through the House, co-led with my fellow Air Force veteran, Rep. Pfluger, that requires DOD to invest in programs to increase awareness of the MSAs in each congressional district.

We urge you to support a strong nutrition Title IV in farm bill negotiations.
