Well, thank you, Mr. Chairman, for holding this important and timely hearing today on the issue of pipeline safety oversight.

I believe there is much more work to be done in order for Americans to feel a greater sense of confidence in the agencies that are responsible for pipeline safety oversight.

I want to thank Chairman Upton and Ranking Member Pallone for a strong leadership within our committee on these issues.

Unfortunately, the issue of pipeline safety too often takes a backseat to other pressing matters until there is an accident or there is a tragedy.
