In recent years, there has been a large expansion known as gathering pipelines.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge Representative Speier and Representative Rehberg, both of whom I know have a personal interest on the subject of pipeline safety.

Just yesterday this subcommittee green-lighted a bill that will short-circuit the review process and force the administration to hastily come to a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline by November 1.

I might seriously question on which side the majority falls when it comes to actually ensuring pipeline safety versus accommodating the interests of corporate entities.

But I don't want to just give one company the sole authority to deal with this significant problem that we are faced with as a Nation.

Don't you think that it is within the power of the Members of Congress to ensure that your experience is not realized

It seems like we are rushing to get this done and we are trying to direct DOE, force DOE to do something that may not be in the interest of the American taxpayer in the long run.

I want your 1,200 workers to keep their jobs, keep their pension, and for us to repay the extraordinary contribution that they made, to pay them for that.

I want to see these uranium tails disposed of, and I want to see the American people gain something from the sale of them, if they are to be sold.

This is an issue that there should be some bipartisanship on, that we can agree on, these nuclear matters.

I hope and expect that we will be able to move this bill through this committee in a collegial and a bipartisan manner.

The minority leader's presence here today speaks to the importance of today's hearing on Chairman Whitfield's legislation to the good people of the great State of Kentucky.

This bill will direct the Secretary of Energy to re-enrich these tails and sell them at a profit for the government.
