I would like to have the opportunity to invite... to request that the EPA appear before the markup.

I would strongly suggest and recommend that you consider postponing your markup until we are able to get EPA and USDA here.

Mr. Chairman, with all due respect I have to join in here with Mr. Dingell.

I don't know why we can't delay the markup for 24 hours if necessary so that we can be responsible and have some real deliberative discussions with the administration, with the EPA, and Department of Agriculture.

I ask this committee to not to deal with these two bills but to deal with a different kind of drought, the drought of laws...

Under the Energy Security and Independence Act, which passed out on the floor for many in 2007, contained the RFS as a role of reaching 36 million gallons of renewable fuels by the year 2022.

We are willing to provide much-needed direction, much-needed funding to develop alternative fuel supplies.

It is extremely important that both sides work together to identify short and long-term strategies and objectives for developing alternative fuels for vehicles.

The courts have once again validated the work that she and her agency have been doing.

I must also applaud and commend Assist Administrator for Air and Radiation, Miss Gina McCarthy.

The judges strongly and fairly affirmed EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

I applaud you for holding this hearing today, especially in the wake of such stunning court defeats.

The majority does not possess the power to hold back the night. You cannot delay or deny the inevitable.

It is important to recognize how we got to this point.

The majority side has invited witnesses who will testify on the burdens associated with implementation of the proposed revised standards, while the minority side has invited guests to speak on the health impacts.

We are here today to discuss the EPA's proposal to revise the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Fine Particulate Matter.
