What we can't do is let very modest differences get in the way of the overall package moving forward swiftly.
It's a plan that will save or create 3 to 4 million jobs over the next few years.
I heard from Republicans and Democrats the need for action and swift action. And that's what we've been trying to do in moving this package forward.
For homeowners who are victims of fraud, I have also proposed a $10 billion Foreclosure Prevention Fund that would help them sell a home that is beyond their means or modify their loan to avoid foreclosure or bankruptcy.
These are extraordinary times and it calls for swift and extraordinary action.
In the last few days, the alleged scandal at Madoff investor securities has reminded us yet again of how badly reform is needed when it comes to the rules and regulations that govern our markets.
