For almost 50 years, this Act has made effective the commands of the 14th and 15th Amendments to protect the right to vote.

I do not trust the Attorney General to properly exercise the expanded powers this bill would give him.

No one should doubt that voting discrimination is far less widespread than in the 1960s.

The current Voting Rights Act is strongly enforced and is protecting the rights of all Americans to vote.

I have long been concerned that colleges and universities are not doing enough with their endowments to assist students with financial needs.

Hearings like this are very essential to Congress' oversight of the executive branch.

I cannot think of a more important hearing than our Committee could hold. After all, what is more important than protecting our Bill of Rights?

Supporters of the proposed amendment think that it is needed to prevent wealthy donors from drowning out ordinary citizens and to restore democracy.

Citizens United said--I mean the comment was made that Citizens United opened the door to millions of dollars in contributions.

The Bill of Rights protects individual rights regardless of whether the Government or a majority approves of their use.

I am hoping that you could commit that the FBI will stop stonewalling the Inspector General.

Will you make sure that the FBI fully cooperates with any IG review and that there is no further retaliation as a result of these allegations?

I thank you and your organization for helping us and protecting the American people from so many different threats.

I think that that is extraordinary power that I am not sure many Americans understand, and it creates concerns.

How valuable is Section 702 to the FBI's counterterrorism mission? And do you have any concerns about whether it is legal and constitutional?

I wish I could say that all of those unanswered issues have been fully dealt with, but they have not.
