The legislative measures signed into law today demonstrate the future of Hawai‘i, helping to diversify our local economy, protect our environment and put our people on an international stage.

It’s difficult to articulate just how important the ocean is to our people.

By ensuring every eligible foster child has a funded investment account, we are giving these young people a stronger foundation as they enter adulthood.

Our responsibility is to give every child the opportunity to succeed, especially those who depend on the state for care.

We are honored that Hawaiʻi was selected for this demonstration program.

Our administration stands firmly with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and the thousands of Native Hawaiian beneficiaries who rely on this program and its promise for future generations.

This lawsuit threatens that commitment. I have directed the Department of the Attorney General to vigorously defend the Hawaiian Homes program. We will fight this lawsuit with everything we have.

The Hawaiian Homes Commission Act was established to address the historic dispossession of Native Hawaiians and reflects a longstanding commitment to them by both the federal government and the state of Hawaiʻi.

We welcome collaboration with our federal partners and share the common goal of protecting taxpayers, safeguarding vulnerable residents and preserving Medicaid for those who rely on it.

Hawaiʻi takes Medicaid fraud seriously. Even before receiving this letter, we were taking steps to strengthen oversight and accountability through the creation of an independent Medicaid Fraud Strike Force within DHS.

For the second year, we are taking steps to ensure Hawaiʻi is prepared and the valuable time needed for response is accelerated.

Housing is a healthcare issue and homelessness is not a character flaw.

As the Pride flags fly at the State Capitol once again, we recognize the importance of standing with our māhū, LGBTQIA+ and QTPI+ communities.

Hawaiʻi has always been a place where people should feel they belong.
