It is through initiatives like these that smaller and less well-off tribes like the Catawbas who have limited or no economic development can take control of their future.

I am here today to urge this subcommittee and, indeed, the full House Appropriations Committee, to invest federal dollars in programs that support economic development for smaller tribes.

The limitations in our Settlement Act significantly inhibit our ability to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
