This is maybe working for government, maybe working for insurance companies, but it is not working for patients.
That is changing the way that American medicine is practiced by folks making decisions here in Washington as opposed to patients and families and doctors making those decisions.
What I hope is that we do not need a mandate for anybody so that they are able to purchase the kind of coverage that they want, not that the government forces them to buy.
I believe that Medicaid is a system that is now not responding necessarily to the needs of the recipients, and consequently, it is incumbent upon all of us as policymakers to look for a better way to solve that challenge.
