I rise today to salute my dear friend, Bill Emerson. Bill Emerson represented honesty, decency and integrity in this body in a very bipartisan way. Through my many conversations with Bill Emerson, I learned to understand that Bill had his priorities in order. Bill loved this institution and he loved his country. But above all else, Bill loved his God, and he loved his family. I thank God for the opportunity to have served with Bill Emerson in this body for the past 18 months. Because of the opportunity to serve with Bill Emerson, those of us who knew Bill will be better Members of this body. But above all else, we will be better citizens.
