Chairman Broun, Ranking Member Edwards, I thank you again for this opportunity to discuss the research to validate the Screening of Passengers by Observation Technique Referral Report.

The goal is not to throw out the proverbial baby with the bath water.

And I agree with you, Ms. Edwards.

I think they are capable of doing it. We are doing it--whether this program gets funded or not, cops are making these decisions every day.

Wow. SPOT was initially developed as intended to stop terrorism. That is the whole point of it.

Are those that were identified--how many of those were actually convicted?

Do you have any problems in releasing the preliminary results?

I would appreciate getting that report to us as quickly as possible.

I hope that the agency will rethink their position.

I would be remiss if I did not address the clear privacy issues.

I hope you all understood that bureaucratese.

It is an honor and a pleasure for me to chair the I&O Subcommittee for this Congress, and it is a position that I do not take lightly.

There is clear opportunity costs that have to be paid.

We both are concerned about national security.

I do know what is in place does not work.

I think it is absolutely preposterous, the Department of Homeland Security, the way they are acting on this.

I hope so. We have seen all those e-mails, but several relating to the state of the unlined computer code haven't received as much attention.

Energy is the live blood of the American economy.

The United States is the only nation on earth that forbids development of its own god given natural resources.

These skyrocketing gas prices, and a risky dependence on fuel supplied by volatile foreign nations such as Libya, highlight our need for an American energy policy that emphasizes production and decreases our reliance upon foreign oil.

The Department of Energy was founded during the Carter Administration as we all know to make us energy independent. It has been a dismal failure in that charge.

I believe very firmly that if a nation cannot feed itself, cannot clothe itself, and is not energy independent, it is not a secure nation.

I think political correctness is also an enemy of us focusing upon those who want to destroy this country.
