The beauty of the MediSave account is that it cuts out the middle man, the big insurance companies and all the bureaucracies are out of it. You go directly to the source. You make your purchase at the point of purchase, and you pay for it. But I think it empowers consumers and not the Government. And finally, most important, it puts that free market mechanism to work in medicine, which it is not allowed to do right now. I was at a retreat that a hospital had this weekend, and I went and listened to some of the reforms they are doing. It is textbook example of what can be done in medicine, if government stays out of it. There are things that are making it more competitive, bringing down the prices, and assuring the quality is still there, increasing quality.
