They were open to the public and open to Democrats. The result of the Republican Working Committee, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, was a plan, an alternative, that created twice the jobs at half the cost. Now, just roughly, the Democrat proposal creates 3.7 million jobs at a cost of $830 billion. The Republican plan creates 6 million jobs--over 6 million, in fact--at a cost of just less than $400 billion. Tax breaks that are targeted at job creation, tax breaks that are targeted for small businesses, tax breaks for people who are unemployed so they would not have to pay taxes on their unemployment insurance, these are things that we need. Twice the jobs, half the cost.”
