“I think that the gentleman has raised a good point that taxes are an indication of the size of your government. One of the things that when we talk about a balanced budget, if we had government the size that we do today, if we had the same size government or budget years and years ago, we would have always had a surplus. The fact is our budget is overgrown. We are like the 300- or 400- pound fat boy who has finally quit gaining weight. And we are saying, oh, yes, now you are in great shape because you are not gaining weight anymore. The fact is we have a huge, massive government, as the President has proposed it, $1.7 trillion government. That is a whole heck of a lot of bureaucrats, a whole heck of a lot of rules, regulations and Washington busybodies who have nothing to do in this world but to stick their nose into your family, your household, your bedroom, your kitchen table, your refrigerator. They are going to give us rules for this and that, labeling laws, restrictions and so forth.”
