“I want to say as the proud Representative from the part of Georgia that has not just Fort Stewart and Hunter, where the 3rd Infantry division is headquartered, but we also have Kings Bay Naval Base and Moody Air Force Base and Robbins Air Base, we are very proud of what the 3rd Infantry and all of our soldiers and all the branches of service are doing. I have had the opportunity to meet with the wives' groups at Fort Stewart. It is incredible, the strength these people have. As we often are sitting in our hearings in Washington, we can tell that most Members and most members of the public do not realize that many of these soldiers have already been in the theater area for 6 months. They are not on a 6-month rotation that some people seem to think, or a 3-month rotation. Many said good-bye to their loved ones back in September or October, and they have no idea when they are going to be coming home.”
