John Mica

John Mica is a former U.S. Representative who served Florida's 7th congressional district from 1993 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, Mica was known for his work on transportation and infrastructure issues, playing a significant role in shaping policies related to these areas during his tenure. He was also involved in various legislative efforts aimed at improving the economy and supporting local businesses in Florida. Mica's long career in public service included a focus on constituent services and community engagement.
I think one of the things we are going to do from this hearing--these hearings are nice, but if you don't do anything to follow up, short of a lot of rhetoric.
But if there are problems with the law, or the law is 35 years old, it needs to be updated, and they should provide the leadership to give us some recommendations.
I am particularly grateful to the community of Bakersville, and also Mitchell County for the use of these historic facilities at this rather historic hearing.
We spent billions. I had the staff starting to count this. TWIC is half a billion by itself.
We put it in the law because they hadn't done it in the beginning, and he says, well, and then he says we never contemplated that this could be used for an ID.
My God, technical hurdles? We asked for this after 2001, and they were working on it.
I expect, and we will haul you back in here, that we get a pilot's license that meets the intent of the law.
I have seen people in tears at TSA lines because their ticket doesn't match their ID exactly.
