This debate really has been about respect or the lack thereof of the people of Florida and their wishes. We have been called hypocrites, audacious, arrogant; implied as being unpatriotic, compared to Communist Chinese, all because last…
let me just say, I have always respected the gentleman from Texas (Mr. Delay) because he shoots it straight, and what he told us during his 4 minutes was what this is really about, and this provision really is about punishing Florida. It…
Mr. Chairman, my grandmother would term what the gentleman from Alabama (Mr. Callahan) is doing for us in northwest Florida as gracious plenty; but I have to say, I thought I could do one thing in return to help his constituents the way he…
I just wanted to give another point of reference to the gentleman from California (Mr. Thomas), who was talking about 100 miles or 200 miles from Waterloo to whatever. We are talking about 17 miles which will not get you from the United…
I have just got to say I am very encouraged about coming back to the 107th Congress, because it appears a new era of civility is dawning, because it seems to me, in the past 4 years, Members' names were thrown around all the time on this…
I have grown. I thank the gentleman from Florida very much. But now is the time for everybody to follow my example of growing, come together, let us sit down, talk this out. Again, I commend the gentleman from Wisconsin (Mr. Obey), the…
I would like to salute everybody that made this authorization bill work. It is a bill to be proud of. The gentleman from South Carolina (Mr. Spence), the committee staff, members of the conference committee all came together and made a big…
I am relieved that order has been returned to the universe. They have now benched Newt Gingrich again and going back to 1993 and say maybe we should not follow his strategy. I do not know if my colleagues were listening, though, to the…
Mr. Speaker, under our current health care system, access to long-term care services in the home and communities is influenced not just by one's health status, but by their location, economic situation and the availability of family…
Mr. Speaker, the Long-Term Care Security Act that we are considering today is a consensus bill. It is reflective of the hard work and dedication of Members on both sides of the aisle. I want to begin by thanking my distinguished ranking…
I love listening to these budget debates every year. It is like back to the future. It is like deja vu all over again. Unfortunately for the Democrats, they seem to be what Paul Simon called a one trick pony. It is the same thing over and…
we are engaged right now in a Presidential primary contest on both the Republican and the Democratic side, and charges have been thrown back and forth, but I think America deserves better than this. I know in Robert Kennedy's campaign in…
I know many Americans and also an awful lot of people in Washington, D.C., are focusing intently on what is going on in New Hampshire, not only tonight but over the past several weeks. We are obviously in the midst of a presidential…
Since the modern Hospice movement began in the early 1970s to mainly care for those with terminal cancer, millions of patients and their families have benefitted from hospice care's unique and compassionate role in America.
It is these men and women that deserve the lion's share of recognition for the success of hospice care in America.
November is National Hospice Month. I rise today to praise the efforts of the associated Hospice programs and the care that they provide to hundreds of thousands of terminally ill patients each year.
Therefore, I invite all of my colleagues to join the hundreds of cities, counties, and states in observing the month of November as National Hospice Month.
In the First District of Florida, Hospice of Northwest Florida will celebrate its 15th year of service and will help meet the medical, emotional, and spiritual needs of over 2000 patients this year.
Perhaps the most impressive statistic of all is the tremendous contribution volunteers make to hospice care.
And reclaiming my time, I just like to say I agree with the gentleman and the gentleman from Virginia (Mr. Goodlatte) 100 percent, and it is very important that we allow E-commerce to flourish without new regulations or tax burdens, and I…
I ask to speak on the point of order, the fundamental purpose of the bill is to provide the attorney general of any State with the authority to bring a civil action to the United States district court to enjoin any person or entity that…
I would just like to say in closing, again bringing up what I brought up at the very beginning of the debate. We can talk about a lot of different things, we can throw red herrings in front of the people in this Chamber, but in the end the…
We have concerns from the gentleman from Georgia regarding the cost of this. Is there any estimate, CBO estimate or any other estimate on what the cost of this study would be? Because certainly if it is a national crisis, as you say it is…
