I rise in support of the legislation, the ban on assault weapons in the United States of America, and I know this is a very difficult issue for a lot of Members here today and who are watching back in their offices, and it probably should be, but it is one I wrestled with quite a while ago as Governor of a State and with the Governors of New Jersey and Virginia among others. I have called for a ban on assault weapons. I have introduced legislation in Delaware. We have not achieved where I would like to go with that, but it was a relatively simple issue, working with our police officers, and others, who believe so strongly in this, and I have looked at this legislation, and a lot of people will look at this legislation, and they will say: 'Well, we can go beyond this because it's going to give the ability to Federal officials to ban other kinds of weapons.' And all variety of arguments come up with respect to that, but I think this whole thing is relatively simple, and there are just a few points, perhaps, we should look at as we try to reach our decisions as to whether we are going to vote for this or not.
