This hearing is critical to our health care system and to American competitiveness.

Thank you for holding today's hearing so that we can amplify and really emphasize the importance of improving the program.

This is the greatest nation in the world, and, if not now, when, and, if not us, who?

This program is a real American success story--the government providing resources and shared responsibility for a means of communication that is vital to many under-served and technological needy parts of our country.

I want to thank and commend the folks who are here today to give us their insights and to reinforce that view.

It strikes me that the people who actually get elected around here knew and demonstrated by their vote that this bill was necessary.

Congress did not use the record it compiled to shape a coverage formula grounded in current conditions.

Why would that vote by those home State Senators not be something entitled to discussion or weight by the Court?

The Court did not strike down the preclearance procedure. It simply struck down the formula.

My view is the Court was legislating in the most inappropriate and worst way.

One of the purposes of Congress is to prevent or, I will quote her, 'guard against backsliding.'

The task ahead of this Committee and the Senate is to try to arrive at a bipartisan substitute.

My time has expired, but I would be interested in another area, which is one that was mentioned earlier concerning human trafficking.

And so, the two worlds merge, pornography and human trafficking.

So the chances are highly likely that the more online gambling there is, the more such breaches and theft there is likely to be.

Even the most established and trusted of institutions, whether our banks or state governments, have been subject to theft or breach of data.

I think there is a clear moral and economic imperative in acting to prevent the abuses and wrongdoing that clearly are in inherent, almost inescapable, in this form of gambling if we fail to take effective countermeasures.

And, again, thank you to everyone for being here today. I know you are not going away. We are not going away. We are going to win this.

The costs of this disease in Connecticut and elsewhere are staggering. Two-hundred-and-sixteen thousand people in Connecticut alone have diabetes, which costs a total of $2.92 billion.
