I want to thank Representative Newhouse. This morning you helped me, you led a tour of the Ice Harbor Dam.

Some people say that they want to protect the salmon, but when it came time to vote to protect the salmon, they abandoned the salmon, in my opinion.

The Committee meets today to conduct an oversight hearing entitled 'The Federal Columbia River Power System: The Economic Lifeblood and Way of Life for the Pacific Northwest.'

What often gets lost in the conversations inside the beltway is the impact that this Federal infrastructure has on the lives of real people.

I want to give a special thanks to Representatives Dan Newhouse and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who have been passionate and effective advocates for you back in Washington, DC.

It is my understanding that these projects are fully paid off before title is transferred.

These transfers can reduce paperwork and staff time at both the Federal and local levels.

Both bills we are considering here today... transfer facilities to the respective local water managers.

Facilitating these types of title transfers remains a priority for this Subcommittee.

Title transfers are often a win-win for the taxpayer and the local communities that are served by these facilities.

The Water, Power and Oceans Subcommittee meets today to hear testimony on H.R. 6583, sponsored by Committee Chairman Rob Bishop of Utah; and H.R. 6652, sponsored by Representative Newhouse of Washington.

The Subcommittee meets today to consider two Bureau of Reclamation title transfer bills that give local control of critical water facilities and infrastructure to the local entities that already operate and maintain those facilities.

I like the idea of local oversight, as opposed to from a distance, like here from Washington, DC.
