“This week marks 45 years of the Taiwan Relations Act, which has strengthened our partnership with our friends in Taiwan and shaped U.S. foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific. Taiwan is a trusted partner in freedom, democracy, trade, security, and global health. As chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on Indo-Pacific, I have been working to ensure the United States supports Taiwan. I led the Taiwan WHO Act to support Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization and the World Health Assembly, and the Taiwan Nondiscrimination Act to give Taiwan a seat at the table in the International Monetary Fund. I also led the Arms Exports Delivery Solutions Act, which became law through the NDAA, to track and ensure delivery of backlogged arms sales to Taiwan.
