He is a member of the Democratic Party and has a long history of public service in California. Prior to his current role, Becerra served as the Attorney General of California from January 2017 to March 2021, where he focused on issues such as consumer protection and healthcare access. He was also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2017, representing California's 34th congressional district.
